What I Believed Before I Converted
I was Pentecostal all my life and I am age 69 and feel age 50. I rented part of my house to a couple from Utah and after they were in my shared home for a couple of days I was told that they were LDS Mormons. I watched their life and I was invited to their church in Smyrna, TN. I was given some books to read and the Joseph Smith book how the church was organized and the history and I believed every word written in the book about his life, seeing God and Jesus Christ and others in a vision that was real or close to being a real confrontation, but was genuine. I knew Joseph Smith had to be for real.
How I Knew the Church Was True
After reading the books, Joseph Smith could not have endured all those years of being tortured and went through torment from unbelievers. He knew he heard from God and Jesus Christ just like Noah, the Ark and the flood. If JS was lying he would have given up. Instead he stood for the truth because he heard from God, Jesus Christ and other prophets. Translating the Book of Mormon with a 3rd grade education, it had to be God that guided him. I believed every word in the books and FELT THE SPIRIT when I read these books. I was baptized and am now a member of the Church. I SAW THE LIGHT!!! The truth!!! I also met two other Pentecostals that converted to LDS. One of the ladies said, well she was searching for something and praying on her knees and asking God to help her, that she was missing out on something and didn't fill fulfilled in her Christian life and two Mormons knocked on her door and she told me that MOST religions, come to a stopping point and have learned all that can be learned and said with the Mormons YOU KEEP ON LEARNING more and more and there is no stopping point. She was a Pentecostal minister and converted to Mormon around year 1995. I do believe the Lord allowed me to meet the young couple from Utah for a reason and the books I just feel the spirit and feel that the Lord wanted me to become a Mormon or otherwise the books wouldn't have caught my interest.
Advice
- I think anyone should read the History of Joseph Smith FIRST before they read the Book of Mormon and the other books, other wise it may be a book they won't read and just lay it down, because the History of Joseph Smith MAKES SENSE and the "making sense" is what caused me to change religions. I have wondered about things all my life and when I read the History of Joesph Smith it all made sense and caused me to "see the light". If I had read the Book of Mormon first I would have laid it down and never become a Mormon.
