Snowflake Christmas Eve Tradition

Rachel Woods
We often think of family traditions during the Christmas season but what about Christmas Eve traditions? What specific activities do families only do on Christmas Eve? Some families open a gift and others have their entire celebration on Christmas Eve. Some people visit extended family members while others stay home and celebrate the holiday just with their immediate families. What do you do?

Some of my family's Christmas Eve traditions include the following:
  • Reading about the birth of Jesus in the Bible (King James Version) found in Luke 2 and having children dress up and act it out
  • Watching a Christmas movie, such as The Nativity Story (a personal favorite)
  • Making six sided snowflakes and hanging them up around the house. We use this type of snowflake pattern, spray them with starch and iron them before hanging them up. Here's a picture of just some of the snowflakes we've made and a printable version of the snowflake pattern we use. You can make these in different sizes too, just start with a smaller piece of paper.
Christmas Eve is a special day to celebrate the birth of Christ with our families. If your family doesn't have any specific Christmas Eve traditions you can start a new one this year.

Share your Christmas Eve traditions with us in the LDS Community forum.
