Hello Sky
by Julie de Azevedo

Guide Rating -   4 Stars
Review by Cindy Siebert

"Hello Sky" contains 10 songs written or co-written by Ms. de Azevedo. This is not an album of LDS inspirational music. Instead, it's a contemporary pop album done by an LDS artist. Very similar to what you might hear on an adult contemporary station but with a wonderful difference; it is very LDS values friendly.

However, this is not the only thing that makes this a wonderful album to buy. I enjoyed every song on this album. Ms. de Azevedo is an excellent song writer. This album in not filled with 10 songs that all sound the same but the words are different. Each melody on this album is unique. And the music truly compliments the words of the songs. For instance, the words to "Something Holy," could have been combined with a very dark melody and been a very sad song. Instead, it has a more upbeat melody and therefore conveys a message that even though life is not perfect it is still good.

In addition, Ms. de Azevedo does not use heavy melodies with lots of instrumentation to cover up a mediocre singing voice. Instead Ms. de Azevedo's voice is the centerpiece of the album. She has an excellent voice with an excellent ability to convey emotion. For instance, "Hello Sky" is a song about being happy again and Ms. de Azevedo does an excellent job of conveying happiness. On the other hand, "Sara's Song" is a song of admiration and she uses her voice to express that emotion as well.

As I stated earlier, this album is very LDS values friendly. You can enjoy listening to it any day of the week without worrying about bad language or offensive lyrics. This album can be given to teenagers and they will enjoy it as well and be able to share it with their friends without being embarrassed while their parents can have peace of mind knowing that their kids are listening to good music. Plus, it is music the whole family can enjoy while playing games or preparing food together.

Would I recommend buying this album? The answer is an unequivocal yes. I really enjoyed listening to the album and when it was over I walked away feeling happy. This album would make an excellent gift for friends, a spouse or children. Therefore I give this album 4 stars because it is excellent music we can enjoy any time.
