It was beautiful. Yellow with a white border and trees galore! I marveled at the house as I carried boxes inside to my new bedroom. The house wasn't as huge as some I had lived in, but it had something....something great. I could just feel it.

Tired and weary my family sat down to thier first dinner in the new Sutton home. My father, a very strict man kept a watchful eye on my brother and I as we ate. Even at eight and nine years old, we were careful to keep our manners.

Mother sat quietly and ate, almost admiring how we enjoyed her cooking. (She was the greatest cook) My brother, Eric and I ate and looked out the window silently viewing the vast backyard which was filled with wonders. I remember itching to go explore it.

We were rushed to bed. I tossed and turned eager to meet the next new day.

Morning birds upon the sill bopped along chirping a gentle wake-up call to the sleeping residents inside.

Eric and I couldn't wait to venture out into the large backyard. We climbed the enormous apple tree and ate cherrys from the black cherry tree. The apricot tree was smaller, but gave enough fruit to make it's exhistance worthy of our yard. Two plum trees lined the tall wooden back fence along with a tent-sized bamboo tree that was great for hiding inside. A large old tree was nearer the house. It had no top but was great to play in. It's shape was like a large baseball glove and we would climb into it's large palm and imagine it to be a ship or a large building. It had other secrets that my brother and I enjoyed with well-placed holes here and there. We loved our backyard. It was the most perfect backyard in the world!

The next few days were great. We started school and I made a great friend named Stef.

Being a second-grader in a new school was hard for me as I was painfully shy, small, pale and thin. The only thing that set me apart from the rest was my extremely long brown hair which everyone seemed to admire. Stef always helped me to feel included and I soon came to love her. We soon became inseperable.

Life was good, but things would soon take an alarming turn.
