Mormon Pioneers
Monday July 21, 2008
July 24th is Pioneer Day, the day we celebrate the heritage of our early fore-fathers. Most Mormon pioneers were baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over 70,000 saints traveled west to avoid terrible persecution, many of which were led by President Brigham Young and other LDS Church leaders. The pioneers followed a trail from Nauvoo, Illinois to the Great Salt Lake Valley of Utah- about 1,300 miles!
You can follow the trail of the Mormon Pioneers and read personal accounts from some of the saints who made this difficult journey, or view other Mormon Pioneer resources.
