Trust in God

While studying my scriptures I read a couple of verses in The Book of Mormon that really touched me. Alma the Younger was teaching his eldest son, Helaman, about keeping the commandments and putting our trust in God. In verse three he says:
"I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day." (Alma 36:3)
He continues by telling his son of his own conversion. Then in verse 27 he says:
"And I have been supported under trials and troubles of every kind, yea, and in all manner of afflictions; yea, God has delivered me from prison, and from bonds, and from death; yea, and I do put my trust in him, and he will still deliver me." (Alma 36:27)
I know that what Alma said is true, that God will support us in all our trials, troubles, and afflictions. He doesn't usually take them away, but supports us so that we can go through them because they are for our own good. The Lord taught this principle to Joseph Smith while he was in Liberty Jail:
"If thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.

"The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?" (D&C 122:7-8)

Great thought. That is basically what has kept me going through the last few years of “opportunities to grow” as I like to say. There have been many and still more to come. But all is well.

I have also learnt that the more we understand the purpose of us being here,we can be better able to move on with life and progress in the gospel and have a greater view of life.I love the gospel and am very proud to be a mormon.
