Personal Application
Thursday March 15, 2007
Wherever I take my scriptures I also carry around a notebook and pen. It's great for jotting down spiritual thoughts, impressions, and even questions. I use it to write down important information, announcements, or upcoming events and it even helps me focus my attention if I find my mind is wandering during a LDS Church meeting by taking notes. Notebooks like this are often referred to as a Spiritual Journal and I have enjoyed keeping one, but the other day I found a new way to use it.
At the end of a Sunday School lesson I was thinking about what we'd learned in class when I scribbled down two words, "Personal Application," followed by a few specific ways I could apply the lesson. This is a simple and obvious thing to do but actually writing those words, asking myself "how" I can personally apply what I'm learning (or already know but need to do better at) and then writing down specific yet small goals has really helped me.
