The True Meaning of Christmas
Friday December 26, 2003
I had a truly wonderful Christmas with Mario and Corissa and later my in-laws. To start Mario and I sat down with Corissa, sang a Christmas hymn, had a prayer and read Luke 2. We also let Corissa put the last puzzle piece of baby Jesus in the manger on her Christmas Countdown Puzzle.
While Mario read the scriptures I had an overwhelming experience of several feelings at once: joy, gratitude for my Savior and his atoning sacrifice, and peace. Just at that moment I saw an amazing sight of a blue jay that had landed on our snow covered windowsill looking for food. It stayed for a little bit and I quickly pointed it out to Corissa who squirmed out of my arms to run across the room to the window just as it flew away.
I felt the spirit's confirmation that what I was feeling was the true meaning of Christmas which shouldn't be felt just on December 25th, but everyday. So I've made a new goal to stay worthy every day by rededicating myself to my daily scripture reading. Instead of missing a day or two (or a week or two) I'm going to study my scriptures every single day. To help me keep this goal I'm going to record my progress on my blog, making me accountable for each and every day.
I hope each of you who reads this will also dedicate yourselves to experience the true meaning of Christmas every day by making a new spiritual goal and keeping it. Merry Christmas!
