From the article: What is a Prophet?
One of our greatest beliefs as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the basic belief in modern prophets. Just as God called prophets in ancient times we also believe He has chosen men to be His messengers in these modern days, but why do we need prophets now? I'd like to read your answers to this important question, so please post your replies which will be shared here for others to read.
We're need medecine too
- Like the old and the new Testament people needed a Prophet to lead them to the kingdom of GOD, it is the same for us, we need a modern day prophet to teach us right from wrong and to take us out of the dark.

We need modern prophets...
- God Loves All of his children. In these trying times He knows we need direction from Him and has provided a means for us to receive His direction. Just as He did anciently, He has called worthy, obedient men to serve us today as His oracles and we will be blessed as we follow their counsel and direction. "By their fruits you may know them, if they be of me."

We Can Know If the Prophet is of God
- The Lord has given His people the very same Spirit that was in Christ Jesus. The Spirit of Truth/The Holy Spirit. Whereby we can KNOW, if the prophet is of God, or not. For one of the gifts of the Spirit {1 Cor 12} is the discerning of Spirits. Secondly, a prophet is to be judged by other prophets, according to Paul in {1 Cor 14}. One must be able to verify the real from the counterfeit, or error occurs, as it has in many churches.

The Way
- To prophecy God's righteousness and to let us know of God's restoration.

The World Changes
- Though the Lord does not change, the world certainly does. To live without prophets would be to face new challenges with old answers, and to come up wanting. With prophets, the Lord can address not only the lessons we learn from days gone by, but provide the answers we need in today's unique circumstances.

Sister Jo
- God's blueprint and plan as well as his purpose for us has never changed. There is and always has been a structure and order to God's plan. These things don't change. In knowing the purpose God has for you tells you that of course there are modern day prophets just as there are modern day teachers, apostles, disciples, pastors, preachers, ministers, ect.

Prophets Guide Us
- Without prophets, we cannot be guided in the right direction. Take the promptings of food storage by Gordon B. Hinkley. Now look at todays natural disasters. We need prophets.

Bring Direction
- We need modern prophets as we are in the last day where God is speaking to us through his SON JESUS, gross darkness has cover the earth and systems of the world are collapsing so we need them to bring direction, to uproot and expose hidden agenda of the devil against people of GOD. We need them to rebuild the fallen wall of the House of God to restore the Godly Standard of God that the Nature of God maybe released from bondage.

Who Has a Right to Change the Lord's Org
- The Lord established His church with apostles, prohets, bishops, elders, etc. Who has a right to change the organization He established. If you do not believe that God speaks through prophets today, then you must believe that no man has the right to change what the Lord Himself created a long time ago (1 Cor 12 & Eph 2:19 20). The Jewish people believe that the Old Testament is the complete works of God and that He no longer speaks to His people. Many Christians testify to the Jews today that the Lord spoke again through His appointed prophets in the New Testament, but that He no longer speaks to His children today. We as Latter Day Saints testify to our Christian and Jewish friends that the Lord has again spoken to a prophet in these latter days. Why would the Lord not speak to His children today? Does He love us less? If there are to be no prophets in the last days, what church today will bring forth the 2 prophets spoken of in Revelation 11:1-12? But don't be afraid to ask Him.

God loves us, thats why
- I just wanted to share that we are so blessed to have a prophet in our latter days. He leads and guides Jesus Christ's church. He is called from God to counsel us. We need to hearken to his word always. We have a prophet today because Heavenly Father loves us.

Just Like Those of Old Needed Prophets
- If there were prophets of old why wouldn't there be modern day prophets? We need a prophet just as much as the Old Testament and New Testament people. Why guide the people to righteousness, record scriptures, and let the world go into a fall after Christ was crucified? How were we suppose to find the path to righteousness if the Bible was not enough for them then? Prophets are God's way for things to be corrected and new wisdom given to everyone. Just like the prophets of old were rejected, including Jesus Christ, the modern day prophets are also rejected. The path of righteousness will continue to roll on and you're either on or off.
