From the article: What is a Prophet?
One of our greatest beliefs as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the basic belief in modern prophets. Just as God called prophets in ancient times we also believe He has chosen men to be His messengers in these modern days, but why do we need prophets now? I'd like to read your answers to this important question, so please post your replies which will be shared here for others to read. Tell Us Why
Our Greatest Time of Need
- In our greatest time of need, why would it not make sense? Our world is so topsy turvy that we have to have guidance from something other than a scripture that can be, and most of the time is, left up to self interpretation. I think the words of a modern day prophet, can at times, give us strength, guidance, and a feeling that we do not suffer alone.

We're Just as Important
- I don't believe God loved the ancient world more than ours. I think he sent us a prophet to guide us just like he did in ancient days. I am just as important and have a need for inspiration from them.

We Are Not Meant to Be Alone
- The Heavenly Father would not leave his children without guidance. We live in fearful times and we are not meant to be alone and without comfort. We look to the prophets for inspiration on our journey home to our Creator.
