Why I Tried LDS Dating Online
Dating online was the perfect format for me because I am not able to talk and meeting men in person was difficult because of the communication barriers. I could have conversations online easily and quickly, without feeling limited and awkward.
How Did You Get Together?
Chris first sent me a flirt mid September and I responded with a flirt back. Then he sent me a message and I responded. About a week later, we chatted on instant message and continued to send messages to each other. After chatting almost every night and eventually figuring out how to talk over the phone, we met on Halloween, about a month and a half after his initial flirt. My family was very nervous, thinking he could be an ax murderer or serial rapist, but I had a good feeling about it. Since he lived in Alberta, Canada and I in Boise, Idaho, we decided to meet in the middle...Great Falls, Montana. After our first meeting, I was very smitten with him, but wasn't sure quite how it was going to work because of the distance between us, he lived in another country, and we both have kids. We kept in contact with each other over the phone/internet and I visited him up in Alberta at the end of November. After that visit, our relationship kept growing and we knew we wanted to be together. Over Christmas break, I visited Chris again and he proposed to me on Christmas Day! On New Year's Day we both flew back to Boise and he met my family and friends. Because of the distance between us and finances, we decided to get married sooner than later, knowing that everything would work out if it was meant to be. We married at the end of March and are very happy together. We have had many challenges to face over the last year and a half with Chris being a recent widower before we were married and with blending our families. It's been difficult, but with our love, commitment, and faith, we remain strong for each other and for our new big family!
Advice
- Meet each other in person when both of you feel comfortable with it.
- Tell others where you are meeting and how long you will be gone.
- Stick to the original plan. If something comes up at the last minute or you have a funny/bad feeling...cancel the meeting.
- Be yourself online. Don't pretend to be someone you are not.
