Question: Do Mormons Worship Joseph Smith?
If you've heard much about us "Mormons" (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) you may have heard that we worship someone named Joseph Smith. Who was this man and do we worship Joseph Smith?
Answer: The answer to this question is, no, we do not worship Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God who restored Christ's church in 1830. We revere Joseph Smith for what he has done, we honor him, and admire him as a great man and as a great prophet, but that is all.
We believe (and teach) that only God, the Eternal Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ should be worshiped. We do not believe that Joseph Smith should be worshiped nor do we teach this, as it would be a false doctrine. Joseph Smith himself never sought to be worshiped but always testified of Jesus Christ, for which he gave his life.
We remember Joseph Smith and we speak highly of him, but we do not worship him. Joseph was called of God to restore His true church, which included His truths, doctrine, and priesthood authority. Joseph Smith was an amazing prophet, like unto Moses, Abraham, Daniel, Abinadi (Book of Mormon Prophet), and others.

"Through Joseph Smith have been restored all the powers, keys, teachings, and ordinances necessary for salvation and exaltation. You cannot go anywhere else in the world and get that. It is not to be found in any other church. It is not to be found in any philosophy of man or scientific digest or individual pilgrimage, however intellectual it may seem. Salvation is to be found in one place alone, as so designated by the Lord Himself..." (Tad R. Callister, "Joseph Smith—Prophet of the Restoration," Ensign, Nov 2009, 35–37).I have a testimony of Joseph Smith. I know he was a prophet of God, I know he was a good, righteous man, and I know that through him, God restored His church and true gospel doctrines. I know this through the witness of the Holy Ghost.
