The Bottom Line
This young adult fantasy novel by Latter-day Saint, Shannon Hale, is a great read for youth ages 10 and up. It's about the girls from a remote mining town who are sent to an academy to be taught how to become princesses (of course), since one of them will be chosen by the prince to be his bride. One girl in particular, Miri, believes she can now prove her worth to her father and her community, by becoming a princess.
Pros
- Clever Story
- Excellent Character Development
- Intriguing Plot and Storyline
Cons
- Not enough romance
Description
- Miri discovers a special talent called "quarry speak"
- A natural leader and fighter, Miri stays strong when life becomes unbearable.
- Other books by Shannon Hale: "The Goose Girl" and "Enna Burning"
Guide Review - Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
This book, although the third in a sequel is really its own book. You don't need to read the first two, although I would recommend it as their both great. "Princess Academy," is really enjoyable to read because of its original story and great character development. I wish the romance had been a bit stronger, but overall this book is a fantastic story worth reading! I recommend it to youth and adults alike.
