Lineage of Adam

In chapter 5 of the Book of Genesis you can easily find the lineage of Adam down to Noah and his sons. The line, through Noah's son Shem, continues in chapter 11 all the way to Abraham. In these chapters the age of each man is given at the time of his son's birth (for this specific line of genealogy which is shown below) as well as at the time of his death. After Abraham the information isn't as readily available, although there are some ages given for Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.

Many of those who lived before the flood lived for hundreds of years. Adam lived 930 years, Seth 912, and Methuselah lived 969 years! While studying the line from Adam to Joseph I wondered if Adam, because he lived so long, was alive at the time of the flood. To figure this out I put together a spreadsheet of the lineage of Adam and calculated the ages of each man at the time of each son's birth until Joseph.

In doing so I was also able to calculate the total years that passed, starting with the beginning of time (the calculation of Adam's age probably began after the fall), all the way down through the line, including how many years had passed when the flood happened, and later when Joseph died for a total of 23 generations.
