Family Home Evening Game: Flash Light Freeze Tag

By Rachel Bruner, About.com

This clever Family Home Evening game was submitted by Jackie and is great for both indoors or outdoors.

Object of the Game: To have all 10 lives or to know where everyone else is hiding.

Items Needed: A group of 4 or more and a flashlight.

Preparation: Turn off all lights except for a little one, such as a night light.

Directions: One person is 'it' and the other people start with 10 lives. The 'it' person counts to 30 and everyone else hides in the dark. The person who is 'it' gets the flashlight and tries to find the others by touching them with the light from the flashlight. When a person is "found" with the light they must yell out their name and say they are caught. The person found with the light also loses a life but can hide again if they have more lives. Once a person has no more lives the game is over and they become "it".

Notes:
  • You can play in the dark, or outside.
  • Younger children can team up with an adult or older sibling so they won't be afraid.
Variation: When a person is found and yells out their name and, "I'm caught," the "it" person must tag and freeze them. Other players have to unfreeze that person by tagging them. Once unfrozen they can hide again. If the "it" person is able to freeze everyone they win and a new person becomes it.
