Items Needed: String or yarn and balloon(s).
Preparation: Hang the yarn across the room (tied to something at each end) blow up a balloon and tie with a knot.
Directions: Separate into two teams, one for each side of the string. Try to make the skill levels fairly even. Start by serving the balloon and hitting it back and forth between teams over the yarn. The goal of the game is not to get the other side out, but to see how many times you can continue the volley back and forth. Keep score using either the number of times over the yarn or the number of minutes. To make sure everyone is involved require that the balloon must be hit by everyone one or by everyone in a specific order. If this is too easy, try using 2 balloons at the same time. Keep score from week to week to see how high your score can get.
Example: Mom serves the balloon over the yarn to the boys' team, Todd hits it back to the girls' side, Susie hits it back across to Dad, then Dad hits it back to Mom to start all over.
Notes:
- It is probably a good idea to move anything breakable before starting.
- This game can help support a family home evening lesson on team work.
