|Hill Cumorah Pageant|
|World famous theatrical production of the Book of Mormon.|
I was able to see the Hill Cumorah Pageant for the first time and it was incredible! There were over 800 volunteers, 650 of them performed on a huge 10-level stage set on the Hill Cumorah, while the others created the amazing special effects. The music was by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and was in complete surround sound. All of these things together made for not only a fabulous pageant but a spiritually moving theatrical production!
Before the production the audience was asked not to take pictures as the camera flashes were distracting. Instead everyone received this 10x13 poster (above) that shows Christ descending among the Nephites after His resurrection.
This is what the stage looked like before the pageant started. There were chairs for over 8,000 people and open grass for those who would rather sit on blankets. The sound system was huge with very large speakers- we could hear the entire production from our seats half way back. The pageant's music and vocal performances were prerecorded, while the performers acted out the scenes and even moved their lips along with their lines (we had a set of binoculars).
The Hill Cumorah Pageant was wonderful! It lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The special effects were very well done with flames, shooting water, burning sails, and even crumbling buildings. I have never been to a better production and am very thankful that I was able to go.
I felt the spirit testify to me of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon as I watched the Hill Cumorah Pageant. I know the events truly happened and that Joseph Smith received the gold plates from the Angel Moroni. I know Joseph translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God and that this book was given to us as another testament of Jesus Christ.
