Searching for LDS Clipart
Part 1: How to use the Church's online magazines to find LDS Clipart.

A great resource for LDS Clipart that most people don't know how to use is the Church's online Magazines. Here is a step-by-step list of instructions on how to do a search for pictures. In this example I am using "resurrection" as the search term:

NOTE: Click on the images to enlarge them.

  1. Click Image to EnlargeGo to http://library.lds.org/

  2. Click on the tab that says, "Advanced Search"

  3. In the "Search in..." box click the arrow and select: Friend

  4. In the "containing ALL these words" box* type: resurrection
*Note: for searches of two or more words, such as "Family History" use the "containing these words near each other" box and change the box below that from "within 10 words" to "within 5 words".

  5. In the "containing this exact phrase" box type: click to view larger format (this is the phrase that is used in the Church Magazines whenever they use images that can be clicked on to see the enlarged format, so typing this in will search for documents with pictures.)

  6. Now click the search button. When the search is complete click the tab at the top that says, "Content & Results" (this way the screen is split in two, the document shows at the top and the search you did is at the bottom, making it easier to click on the links and see each one with out having to go back and forth between the tabs.)

  7. The first search that comes up is, "The Atonement and the Resurrection" click on it, and you'll see an article about the last month of the Savior's life with a detailed map of the entire city of Jerusalem near the bottom. Click on the map to enlarge the image.

  8. To save the image right click over it with your mouse and chose (in Internet Explorer) "Save Picture As"

  9. To save the link to the article to be able to find it later you can either copy/paste the link into a document, or save it as a bookmark in your favorites. To do this go to the column on the left hand side, find the name of the article, in this case "The Atonement and the Resurrection" right click on it with your mouse, here you choose either "Copy Shortcut" (to then paste into a document) or "Add to Favorites" to save as a bookmark.

Note: When you reopen the file it will not be in the frames with the search tabs, it will just be the document on it's own. To see what I mean click this link, "The Atonement and the Resurrection".

  10. If you look back at the list of searched items (in the frame at the bottom) you'll see that number four, "Sharing Time: Savior and Redeemer" has a great picture of the Savior.

  11. Continue browsing through the documents to find ones that have pictures you're interested in. Number 14, "Our Savior and Redeemer" has a few pictures.

  12. Another thing to try is to search through the Liahona, New Era, or Ensign magazines instead of just the Friend and you'll sometimes find great pictures as well. Obviously you can search through all the magazines at once but for me I find it's a little easier if I search one magazine at a time.

For example I did the same search above but in step three I chose Liahona instead of Friend.

The third search to come up was, "Flannel Board Color Page: He is Risen" which has five images about the resurrection, such as the tomb, the guard, the stone, etc.

One problem with some images is that they are grouped together (four images on one sheet) and they are sometimes facing sideways so you will need to divide up the images and turn them right-side up.

If you need help doing any of this or have any questions just send me an email to lds.guide@about.com and I'll help you out! If enough people need help with how to fix up images I'll type up instructions and post them here.
