“Heal Me” by Jenny Phillips is 11 songs based on the scriptures.  All 11 songs are written by Jenny Phillips herself or in collaboration with others.  All of the songs are based on stories found in the scriptures.  Some songs such as “Be not afraid” and “Heal Me” show us how we can apply the scriptures in our own lives.  Other songs, such as “Abinadi” and “Healing Hands” are musical portrayals of the scriptures.

The 11 songs on the album are well written.  Sis. Phillips has done a good job at writing songs that accurately portray the stories they represent.  She has also been very successful at working in reminders of how we can apply the scriptures in our own lives.  While reading the words of the songs you can’t help but be moved by the messages they are portraying.  It’s the words on this album that is truly my favorite part.  They really made me think.

The musical accompaniment for the song is also nice.  It’s not particularly exceptional, however.  Truly, it reminds me of the music that is found on so many LDS albums.  There’s a nice melody and it’s very sweet but the music just does not jump out at you. It’s very traditional LDS contemporary music.  In many ways it reminds me of Jeff Goodrich’s music.  The song’s have very good, Christ centered, messages while the music itself is rather ordinary.
