Short Story Writing Contest: Guidelines

NOTE: The Short Story Contest is now closed, but you may continue to submit stories to be posted on the site.
Winners were announced on October 11, 2002.

Enter a short story in our writing contest for a chance to WIN one of several prizes, including LDS books, software, and music.

Dates: The contest begins August 1, 2002 and ends September 30, 2002. Winners will be announced by October 31, 2002.

Rules: Stories must be 300 - 1000 words, and must not contain profanity or sexual innuendoes. Choose from one of our three story categories: Spiritual/Faith Promoting, Uplifting/Moving, or Humorous/Funny. Some examples would be conversion stories, spiritual experiences, great missionary efforts, touching moments with friends and family, or funny experiences you've gone through. How to Submit: You must first read the Official Rules before Submitting your entry online.

Winners: There will be a first, second, and third place winner in each of our three categories:

  • Spiritual / Faith Promoting
  • Uplifting / Moving
  • Humorous / Funny

Prizes and Sponsors:

1st Place Winners will receive one of the following:

2nd and 3rd Place Winners will receive one of the following, randomly selected items:

Total Approximate Retail Value of All Prizes: $373.88 USD

Winners will be announced on or before Thursday, October 31, 2002.

Judging Criteria: The prize winners will be selected by a neutral judging panel and will be rated in three areas:

  • Writing Skill
  • Story Content
  • Spiritual, Emotional, or Humorous Level (respectively)

Posted Stories: All winning stories, and other submitted entries, including those of honorable mention, will be posted online at our Community Corner.
