One afternoon my brother and I were in our bedrooms reading when all of a sudden we were startled by a loud sound. We met in the hall as we ran to the source which seemed to be coming from the kitchen.

There was mom, with gloves up to her elbows, a sponge in one hand and a putty knife in another. She stood white as a sheet.

No one said a word as we just looked at her waiting for some kind of explaination to the odd sound. She looked at us and simply said, "Watch." Mom dipped her sponge into the water bucket and then preceded to soak the wallpaper on the wall. When she took the putty knife to the wallpaper to scrape it loose the sound moaned once again, only this time louder. Each time she repeated this she got the same results. Eric and I stood dumbfounded, not knowing what to do or think. Almost simultaneously we said, "Call dad." Mom called dad who thought we were just a little overly frightened by a settling house. That is, until mom scraped the wallpaper and he heard the noise clearly over the phone. He said,"I'm coming home."

Dad arrived and we all knew things would never be the same. Our lack of believing in "that which we didn't see" was gone. Something was there. Something was going on in our new house that we had no idea how to deal with.

The moaning sound didn't repeat itself again for some time. Since that day I decided to go to church with Stef. We weren't religious people, but it was a nice environment and I was glad to be with Stef.

Things began to happen at our house. The most peculiar involved our neighbors. When outside a neighbor would ask if our grandfather was visiting since they saw an old man in my brother's bedroom window. Other neighbors inquired about this old man seen in his window as well.

There was no old man living with us.
