On a cold winter's evening about 5.30 p.m. in England, two Missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints knocked on a door in a city called Hull.
My Mother answered the door and was introduced to Elder Bott from Castle Dale, Utah USA and Elder Tolley from Canada. The Missionaries explained they had a message to share about Jesus Christ.
My Mother told them my Dad was at work and she would love for them to come back when he was home. They arranged an appointment for the following evening.
Dad came home from work and Mom told him of the visit she had had from the American Missionaries. Dad asked "What were they selling?" Mom laughed as she explained they weren't selling anything and that they would come back to share a message about Jesus Christ.
Later that same evening the Missionaries knocked on the door. They looked embarrassed as Mother opened the door and they realized their error. My Mom invited them in and they shared their feelings about Jesus Christ and introduced them to the Gospel.
My Parents were ready to accept the gospel and asked about baptism. Just two to three weeks later they were baptised and eagerly awaited the time when they could go to the Temple and be sealed. My Grandmother had died when my Mom was just 15 and she was elated when she learnt Families could be forever.
A year later, my Parents were sealed and then sealed to my 4 year old brother and myself. (I was 6 months old.) My Father was called as the Bishop of the Hull 2nd ward, 5 years after that in 1974.
My parents have 4 children and all 4 are active today. The boys served Missions and all of them have been to the Temple.
The wonderful thing is that
my Dad and Elder Jerry Bott of Castle Dale Utah, still write to each other
after all these years and have got to visit with each other. I now live in
Utah and this is amazing to me how our lives are linked , even today.
