Sharing Time - Miracle of the Fishes

A creative way to teach faith through the miracle of the fishes.

By Rachel Woods, About.com

Preparation: Read the article, "Miracle of the Fishes" from the July 2003 Friend. Make several different fish to be used with the lesson.

Directions: Read the article in sharing time then talk about how we can fill up our buckets with faith. For junior primary (younger children) write things that increase our faith on the back of the fish then let them put the fish into the bucket. For senior primary (older children), in advance write the words using a secret code then ask the individual classes to decode them. Don't give them the decoder at first to help illustrate how sometimes we need to ask for help to receive more faith or to receive the things we need. After they tell you that they need help give them the code. (Each class should have a different set of words written on the backs of their fishes.) After they decode the words have them tell everyone else how their words can help us to increase our faith. Some words you can use are: prayer, fasting, scripture study, hard work, obedience, and anything else that relates to the story. Then fill the bucket with their "fishes of faith".
