Mosiah 27: 24-26,
"For, said he, I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed
of the Lord; behold I am born of the Spirit."
And the Lord said
unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations,
kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God,
changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness,
being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters;"
And thus they become
new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the
kingdom of God."
Moses 5:9,
"And in that day the Holy Ghost fell upon Adam, which beareth record
of the Father and the Son, saying: I am the Only Begotten of the Father
from the beginning, henceforth and forever, that as thou hast fallen
thou mayest be redeemed, and all mankind, even as many as will."
Rom. 5:11,
"And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus
Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement."
Alma 42: 17, "Now,
how could a man repent except he should sin? How could he sin if there
was no law? How could there be a law save there was a punishment?"
Lev. 18: 4,
"Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein:
I am the LORD your God."
D&C 52:15,
"Wherefore he that prayeth, whose spirit is contrite, the same
is accepted of me if he obey mine ordinances."
"As used in the
scriptures, to atone is to suffer the penalty for an act of sin, thereby
removing the effects of sin from the repentant sinner and allowing him
to be reconciled to God. Jesus Christ was the only one capable of making
a perfect atonement for all mankind." (Guide
to the Scriptures, Atonement)
"Sacred rites
and ceremonies. Ordinances consist of acts that have spiritual meanings.
Ordinances can also mean God's laws and statutes." (Guide
to the Scriptures, Ordinances)
