As parents and Primary leaders, we ask our children to memorize the 13 Articles of Faith but how well do they understand them? Use this lesson to teach your children about the first Article of Faith.

Preparation:

Print the following visual aids:
  • Article of Faith #1 Poster
  • Heavenly Father
  • Jesus Christ
  • Holy Ghost*
  • Godhead Titles
  • Heavenly Father Attributes
  • Jesus Christ Attributes
  • Holy Ghost Attributes
  • * Print the Holy Ghost on transparency paper to demonstrate the fact that the Holy Ghost does not have a body of flesh and bone.

    Lesson:

Ask your children if they can recite the first article of faith. Place the article of faith poster on the table and read it together as a family.

Explain that the lesson tonight will be on the Godhead. Place the Godhead title strip on the table and ask the children if they know what the Godhead is. As they name the members of the Godhead, place the corresponding title strips on the table.

Show the pictures of the Godhead to the children one at a time. Ask them if they know who each member is. Place the picture under the correct title as the children correctly identify them.

Explain that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have resurrected bodies of flesh and bone but the Holy Ghost is a spirit body.

Shuffle the slips of paper listing the attributes of the Godhead. Hold one attribute up and ask the children to decide which member of the Godhead it describes. Some of the attributes may match more than one member of the Godhead. Read the corresponding scripture for each attribute.

Continue the lesson, matching all the attributes to the correct member of the Godhead. Be sure to answer any questions your children might have. Depending on the age of your children, you might explain that not all religions believe the Godhead consists of three separate beings. Explain how the Godhead is one in purpose.

    Bear testimony.
