The Bottom Line
According to the cover of Divine Engineering it is a book that shows the compatibility of "scriptural accounts and scientific truths about the Earth's creation" and it does just that. The author, David Brems, explains how discoveries in science go hand-in-hand with revealed scripture of the creation. Quoting from page 3 Brems says, "The creation was accomplished through obedience to fundamental principles and as a result the remnants are sometimes incorrectly interpreted in a Godless fashion."
Pros
  • Brilliant Clarification of Eternal Truths
  • Awe Inspiring Explanation of Science and Religion
  • Greater Understanding in Things of Heaven and Earth
Cons
  • A Bit Repetitious
  • No Glossary of Scientific Terms
Description
  • Just some of the amazing things I learned from reading this book:
  • How the Earth could be billions of years old when revealed scriptures says it's only 7,000 years.
  • Why the scriptures repeat the dividing of the light on two different days of the creation.
  • How it could be possible for our bodies to be resurrected using natural laws.
Guide Review - LDS Book Review of Divine Engineering by David N. Brems
I absolutely loved reading this book. It was amazing how everything I read "clicked" and made sense when seen from a different point of view and with a little bit more understanding. We as human beings are very limited in the amount of knowledge that we both have and that is available at this time. If we could see and know the things that God knows we would see how everything in science goes hand-in-hand with religious revelations. I'm very grateful for this book and the author's effort in teaching us a little bit more about these eternal truths. I recommend this book to everyone, both member and non. The only reasons why I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I thought a few things were repeated a little too much (although that is how things are taught in the LDS church, through repetition) and also because I would have liked it if the author would have included a glossary of scientific terms. There were a few things I didn't quite understand that I would have researched a little more if a glossary had been provided. The author does a good job explaining most things so the average individual can understand.
