LDS Primary Singing Time Idea - Musical Notes

The children have fun picking and making their own song.

By

Preparation: Take poster board and cut in half. Draw a musical staff on one of them. Next, make musical notes, whole, half and quarter notes on the other. Or print out the following clipart. You can laminate or cover the musical staff and notes in contact paper. Decorate a can, and make sure the edges are smooth. Choose how many songs you will sing in Primary, write each song on one of the notes. Put the notes in the can and attach the musical staff to the chalkboard, wall, or bulletin board.

Directions: Now the fun begins. This part is similar to musical chairs except you play musical notes. Have the children pass the can while the piano is being played. When the music stops, the child holding the can pulls out a note. This will tell you what song you are going to sing, then have the child place the note on your musical staff. After all of the notes have been placed, have the piano player play the song the children created. You can even have them sing it too. The kids love it and are really excited to hear their song.

Note: If you don't have a piano or a piano player you can sing/hum a song instead.
