14.44 Million Mormons

By April 6, 2012

Follow me on:

As of December 31, 2011, there are over 14.44 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide. These latest statistics were announced during the General Conference broadcast this past weekend.

How many Mormons do you know? You might be surprised to find that someone you know is a Mormon. We don't mind being asked if we're Mormon (aka members of the Church of Jesus Christ) and we love being asked questions about what we believe. Feel free to ask us questions or share your own beliefs with us!

See the Mormon World Population for additional statistics.

Even though the church membership is at 14.44 Million I wonder how many of those church members are active in the church? How many inactive members do we have in the church? How many members don’t receive home teachers and visiting teachers on a regular basis? How many of those members are without a church calling?

Statistics are great but we sometimes fail to realize that those numbers represent men, women, and children. Too many times the missionaries baptize, baptize, and baptize and yet the members fail to fellowship, home teach, visit teach, activate, be a friend, welcome newcomers into the ward.

I wish the church would also tell the rest of the story as Paul Harvey would say. How many are full tithe payers, have temple recommends, etc.

There are a billion Catholics in the world. I wonder how many of them attend Mass regularly. I wonder how many of them go to confession at least once a year. I wonder how many of them are communicants. You get the idea?
