The Power of the Book of Mormon

A few months ago I blogged about Studying the Book of Mormon and today I added the Church's Book of Mormon institute manual to my list of scripture study resources.

In the Introduction there's a wonderful quote by President Gordon B. Hinckley:
"I promise you that if each of you will [read the Book of Mormon], regardless of how many times you previously may have read the Book of Mormon, there will come into your lives and into your homes an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord, a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to His commandments, and a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God" ("A Testimony Vibrant and True," Ensign, Aug. 2005, 6).
During this year's October General Conference I personally felt that many of our general Church leaders spoke about the Book of Mormon or at least mentioned the power and importance of reading it. Of the 34 talks 19 of them mentioned the Book of Mormon.

Here is a list of last month's conference addresses which discuss, or give examples of, the power of the Book of Mormon: During his talk, Dare to Stand Alone, President Thomas S. Monson said:
"You can know for yourself that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. Read the Book of Mormon. Ponder its teachings. Ask Heavenly Father if it is true. We have the promise that 'if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.'

"When we know the Book of Mormon is true, then it follows that Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet and that he saw God the Eternal Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. It also follows that the gospel was restored in these latter days through Joseph Smith--including the restoration of both the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods."
I love the Book of Mormon and have my own personal witness of the Book of Mormon. I am deeply grateful to have these words of God as part of the scriptures God has given to us. What a blessing and honor it is to read, study, and apply the truths found within its pages. May you also come to know for yourself that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ.
