True Friendship

Today I was pondering the joy of true friendship. I have a few extremely close friends who fill my life with joy. Their friendship and love are a blessing that I greatly value- it's priceless. Then I began to ponder the love of Christ and when he said the following:
"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

"Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you" (John 15:12-14).
It's extremely rare that a friend is ever required (or able) to give their life for another, and Christ's atoning sacrifice was the greatest of all. He is our truest friend- the meaning and depth of which we fully cannot understand.

The Lord and my Savior are my dearest and most joyful friends. They are with me always and I don’t know how I would survive without them. I also have some very dear friends and they love the Lord as I do. We can console one another, but the Savior gives me my greatest comfort. It is always best to seek Him first and He will guide us to our next step toward Him.

My friends here on earth are like sample friends because what I do to them I also do unto Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ. I know that the Lord is my only true friend in this world because he is only one with pure love for me and care.

When I served as a Ward Mission Leader in my ward, I was always telling my Ward Family that to be a good member missionary you need to be a “true friend” to those with whom you are trying to be a missionary to. It doesn’t matter whether it is a “non-member” or a “less active” member. And what is the true definition of a “True Friend”? It means that you are their friend no matter what occurs between your friend and yourself. If you invite them to come to church with you or to listen to the missionaries and they say no or NO! you still remain their friend. If your friend slips and commits a sin, you stand by them and encourage them to pick themselves up and keep going. Nothing seems to change your feelings of friendship toward that person even if they don’t live or do the things that you wish they would. YOU LOVE THEM UNCONDITIONALLY!
