Called to Serve

Wednesday November 5, 2008
Today my copy of the November Ensign arrived which has the talks from last month's 178th Semiannual General Conference and General Relief Society Meeting. The first article I read was by President Thomas S. Monson from the priesthood session of conference. The part that touched me the most was when he spoke in regard to callings received in the church. He said:
"I would urge all of us to pray concerning our assignments and to seek divine help, that we might be successful in accomplishing that which we are called to do. Someone has said that 'the recognition of power higher than man himself does not in any sense debase him.' He must seek, believe in, pray, and hope that he will find. No such sincere, prayerful effort will go unanswered: that is the very constitution of the philosophy of faith. Divine favor will attend those who humbly seek it" ("To Learn, to Do, to Be," Ensign, Nov 2008, 67).
I especially liked what he said about the "philosophy of faith" and believe it applies to all of us who have been called of God to serve others. As we humbly "seek, believe in, pray, and hope that [we] will find" our prayers will be answered and we will know how to serve our brothers and sisters.

How has the Lord blessed you in your callings? How have you seen His hand guide your way as you've served others? Please share your experiences with us in the comments or in the LDS Community forum!
