(1) Ian Mackechnie says:

Smith seems to have been an imaginative young man who had an interest in religion but also had a greater interest in himself. Starting a new religion by claiming a ‘revelation’ from God seemed the best way to achieve his purpose. Bearing in mind that Smith was not all that educated and came from a very poor family would have been a further inducement to form a following which could help support him and his family. Unfortunately for him, his pride and ambition finally got the better of him and lead to his untimely demise. But just because his religion has continued to this day is no proof it is a work of God; just look at all the other religions in the world? Have they not also endured the test of time?

(2) Tom says:

MATTHEW 7:15-20
Jesus said “Be on your guard aganist false prophets; they come to you looking like sheep on the outside, but on the inside they are really like wild wolves. You will know them by what they do. Thornbushes do not bear grapes, and briars do not bear figs. A healthy tree bears good fruit, but a poor tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a poor tree cannot bear good fruit. And any tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire. So then, you will know the false prophets by what they do”.
