FAQ: Do Some Latter-day Saints Practice Polygamy?

Wednesday July 23, 2008
Have you heard that some members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints practice polygamy or that polygamist groups are affiliated with the LDS Church? If so please read the truth in this FAQ and how anyone in the LDS Church who is found practicing polygamy or is affiliated with polygamous groups is excommunicated.

(1) XLOANER says:

The church allowes a worthy priesthood holder to be married (sealed for time and all eternity) to more than one woman in the temple at a time… BUT he must have a civil divorce from wife number one or she must have died on earth for the sealing to take place… thus technically according to civil law no polygamy has occurred but the requirement of attaining the highest degree of the celestial kingdom has been met… see doctorine and covenants section 132
