LDS Single Adult Presentation: For the Strength of You

Friday May 23, 2008
Toni Martin Owen and her husband, Dan, have put together some wonderful presentations for LDS single adults including the topics of dating, courtship, and being true to yourself. Between the two of them they've had 40 years of experience as LDS single adults.

Toni has graciously shared with us their "For the Strength of You" PowerPoint presentation which you can download and view and if you don't have PowerPoint all you have to do is download and install Microsoft's free viewer. Many thanks to Toni and Dan for sharing their talents with us!

That was terrible. Sexist and patronizing don’t even come close. The presentation provides a reminder to all you good women out there to forgive your man’s wandering eye, he is just a poor victim of his visual appetites after all! Oh, and don’t for forget not to be a foul temptress in your dress. Are these people SERIOUS?!!

I disagree. I didn’t get that from the presentation at all. I saw encouragement to be yourself rather than going all out to bag a man at any costs. That you can present yourself in an attractive manner without being slutty or obvious and that living righteously brings its own rewards.

Golly gee Jo, I must have misunderstood the following, and I quote: “The longer that a woman retains an angry, resentful, emotional reaction to men’s visual natures…rather than feeling compassion and empathy [for his ‘visual nature’ LOL]…Men need to feel a visual attraction as much as a tree needs water to thrive and flourish.” What a contradictory comment. Just what do they think happens when a woman’s body and face go through changes from childbearing and natural aging? Does her husband have a licence to look around at other women because he’s “visual” and “needs to thrive”? I repeat – patronizing and sexist are descriptors for this presentation.

Dearest Susan,

You have exemplified my very point. Thank you. Righteous men are not excused from natural man behaviors, but they are still affected by them. Righteous men appreciate support from women who know their eternal worth and dress with decorum and dignity.

thanx jo, encouragment was the intended outcome of the presentation. perhaps being there as toni & i present it instead of just viewing the powerpoint would make a difference in perspective.
susan, let me assure you that after my wife has gone the natural processes of aging & child bearing that her face & body are just as, if not more attractive to me as the day i married her. it’s not about a hollywood perception. it’s about seeing the beauty inside a woman that cares for herself spiritually, physically, mentally & emotionally. my natural man may still make my head turn occasioanlly, but my heart, soul, & commitment ae always with her.
