The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ

Friday April 18, 2008
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are often referred to as Mormons- but why? It's because of The Book of Mormon which is an ancient record of God's dealings with different groups of people who lived on the American continent. Mormon was the prophet who abridged this record and for whom The Book of Mormon is named. The history in The Book of Mormon recounts how a group of people left Jerusalem, were taught by prophets of God, and were later visited by Jesus Christ.

Find out more about this marvelous book including how the gold plates (upon which Mormon abridged this record) were buried with a promise, as well as my own personal testimony of The Book of Mormon.

After reading the Book of Mormon, I decided that my favorite hero in these scriptures was the missionary Abinadi. He preached repentance to a wicked king and people. In Mosiah 13:4, Abinadi states, “I must fulfill the commandments wherewith God has commanded me.” Abinadi was a wonderful example for all of us. He bravely obeyed the Lord’s commandments – even though it cost him his life. Abinadi testified of our Lord and Savior and became a martyr.

Abinadi is one of my favorite prophets from the Book of Mormon too. I also love the account of Ammon and his brethren when they lived among the Lamanites for 14 years and converted 1000’s of them to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Thanks for sharing, Barry!
