Poll: Are Mormons Christians?

Monday March 3, 2008
Here's another question I was thinking about the other day when browsing through the LDS FAQs, so I decided to put it into a poll as well:

If you're not sure then read the FAQ, Are Mormon's Christians?, before voting.

Next Poll: Have you ever attended General Conference?
Previous Poll: Saved by Faith or Works?

I just don’t get it. I am not LDS, but I know they believe in and follow Christ, and isn’t that the definition of a Christian? Beyond me.

Thanks for your comment. We do believe and follow in Christ and we believe that means we are Christian, but many people do not agree with that. You can read more about it in the following articles:

If more people read and were competent in what the Bible teaches, they would come to answer: No, Mormons are not Christians, just as much as Bahai’s are. All one needs to do is look at the FAQ section to see that only Book of Mormon references are given, because the teaching of the Bible do not support them. “Latter-day Saints believe that men need to do more than merely profess a belief in the Lord, Jesus Christ to gain salvation.” What?! The Bible is clear that works are a natural and expected result OF salvation, but not to GAIN it. Not only this, but the Jesus of Mormonism is different than the one revealed in the Bible; therefore he is another Jesus…a false Christ. For more in-depth side-by-side comparison, I urge you to pick up Walter Martin’s book: Kingdom of the Cults.
Jude verse 3 is just one verse in a staggering blow to mormonism. If the message of our common salvation was once and for all delivered to the saints, then what is the book of mormon? Even your post about Rev. 22 is answered with…you guess it, the Book of Mormon!, and not the Bible (or should I say the earlier scriptures, for Mormon’s sake). Any basic theologian knows you interpret the newest revelation by the old, not the other way around. By affirming their response to this question in particular, they reason in a circle. It’s like the mistake of looking up a definition of a word in the dictionary, and then using that word to define it! By the way, the Bible speaks of adding to scripture, as well as doctrine, which IS changed through Mormonism. So even if you use the word altered, instead of added, mormonism still breaks the Law of God. Sadly, we have become a nation that refuses to use it’s brain and actually study the Bible and put everything to the test of truth before accepting it as such. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but Truth, by nature, is exclusive. So I strongly recommend Kingdom of the Cults, by Walter Martin. Or you could just try reading and learning your Bible; that works too. And if you want to settle the “infallible bible” argument, learn Koine Greek and read it for yourself. You’ll still come to the same conclusion about Mormonism. It’s a shame we don’t have the “original” text of the Book of Mormon unlike the thousands of manuscripts we have for the Bible. Convenient? I don’t think so. But you can always get a copy of Charles Anton’s letter refuting Joseph Smith’s so-called Greek from Columbia University, I believe. Ah, but I don’t want to spoil Walter Martin’s book for you. I pray that all will come to a knowledge of the Truth: that Jesus Christ is THE eternal God in human flesh, reconciling mankind to himself (2 Cor. 5:19), and that His Word was complete and final in the scriptures that we have in the Bible (A little Jude 3 tucked in there). To glory of Him who sits on the throne, and unto the Lamb!

(4) Gahlen says:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am what we call a convert. I have experienced the conversion of being “born again” in the traditional Christian sense. For me is was a beginning, an acknowledgement of the reality of Jesus Christ. This led me to further study and investigation and ultimately baptism into the LDS church. I am Christian! Though you may believe that “your Christ” is not my Christ and is therefore false, you certainly have the agency to believe so. The Bible states that “by their fruits you shall know them” Matt. 7:16-20. I witness daily the fruits of many Christian peoples of many denominations. The debate of Pauls writings on Grace and James writings on Works are mutually inclusive. Faith without works is death James 2:18,20,26 and 1 Thes. 1:3. Here is the problem of selectively choosing the verse or that, anytime we selectly pick and choose words of the Apostles to validate our position, we miss the bigger picture. We need to stand shoulder to shoulder and fight the real evil in the world not our doctrinal differences. JMO…….

(5) John Paterson says:

Latter-Day Saints are true Christians in every sense of the word! They differ in their understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ than many Christians, but most Christians differ in their view of Jesus. Catholics don’t believe the same things that Evangelicals believe about Jesus. Many Christian faiths today differ significantly regarding basic Christian doctrines and the nature of God. If you were to ask the average Christian today to explain the Trinity you will find many different explanations. That is because the Trinity (nowhere in the Bible) is a man-made doctrine that was not finally decided upon after much debate (and people being executed) 300-400 years after the death and resurrection of Jesus. We, as Latter-Day Saints are told that we have to believe in the Trinity in order to be “true Christians.” When asked to explain the Trinity by pastors, teachers and evangelicals, I have always been told, “Man cannot understand the nature of God, and therefore the Trinity, with our finite mind.” Even though my bible states that “This is life eternal, to know God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ.” Most Christians do not know Jesus because of the Trinity. They don’t know if he is the Father, the Son of the Holy Ghost. If you want to truly know who God is read the Bible verses describing Jesus’ baptism. Jesus was on earth, God was speaking from heaven and the Holy Ghost decended from Heaven like a dove. That is plain and simple. I know I have a heavenly father. He had a son whom he offered as a sacrifice for all of mankind. The holy ghost inspires me every day. The bible and the book of mormon explain the nature of God perfectly. Lastly, the Latter-Day Saints are the finest people I have ever met and been associated with (there are always exceptions). On the other hand, I have many Christian friends, co-workers and associates who have repeatedly told me that I am not Christian, that I am going to Hell and that they are saved. Those same people would not lift a finger to help their fellow man. They routinely use profanity and vulgar language, (I even had one Christian associate tell me that God doesn’t care what we say!) criticize all other faiths except evangelicals. Some even commit adultery stating that has forgiven them for their sins and they are saved. Unfortunately, they are often the rule in Christianity today and not the exception. I had a Christian motivational speaker and author tell me that Christianity today is founded in truth, but the followers do not live the lives Jesus speaks of. Mormonism is founded on lies, but their followers live the principles of the Gospel. I know this without a shadow of a doubt: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is led by Jesus Christ by a living prophet (just as his church has had a prophet throughout history) and the Latter-Day Saints are living the principles because they truly have Jesus in their hearts.

(6) Paul says:

I voted “no” to answer the question if Mormon’s are Christians. I wanted to explain my reasoning. I had this same discussion with a couple of my Mormon friends. What I boils down for me is do we believe in the same God? The answer ultimately is no. I found from my studies that Mormons believe God the Father was made of bones and flesh at some point. This is a different god than that of every other Christian organization. This leads into the discussion of the Godhead where the Mormons believe in multiple gods rather than the Trinity as believed in all other Christian religions. Being a Christian is more that just believing that Christ died for our sins. It goes deeper into who Christ is which is ultimately who God is. Thus, my vote that Mormons are not Christians goes along with this thought process. Thank you

(8) Spencer says:

I would like to issue a question, or a challenge… could someone, anyone show me where in the Bible it defines exactly how God the Father is? Or even what happened to Jesus Christ AFTER he resurrected? By this I mean physical or spiritual attributes AND where it limits/defines them as solely spirit or flesh. The issue of this debate seems to be, at least to me, whether or not members of the L.D.S. faith (Mormons) believe in and follow the same Jesus Christ / God as those who believe and follow exclusively the Bible. The argument seems to stem off of the L.D.S. belief that “as man is, God once was” idea. If there are any other major issues, I would love to discuss them.

P.S. Oh and as far as Blane mentions the Rev 22 discussion, I would also recommend rereading Deut. 4:2 and also researching WHEN these prophesies were recorded… it is interesting to see how what you mentioned.

(9) Preston says:

GOD IS THE FATHER AND JESUS US HIS SON:

John 20: 17 – Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

John 8:18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

John 8:28-29

28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

John 5:17 ¶ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

John 5:20-26 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father araiseth up the dead, and bquickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath acommitted all bjudgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should ahonour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that bhonoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
• • •
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the aSon to have blife in himself;

WORKS REQUIRED AND PART OF FAITH.

We cannot be saved by professing faith w/ our lips, while failing to act on it. What if Jesus had professed belief, than failed to act? Is not the same required of us? Can I willfully break commandments and still be saved by claiming, “I believe!”?

James 2:14-26 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
• • •
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
• • •
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had boffered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
• • •
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Titus 1: 16
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they ddeny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Matt. 16: 27
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Rev. 20: 12-13
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Rev. 3: 16
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (IF YOU PROFESS BELIEF…EVEN IF BAPTISED…YOU ARE NOT JUSTIFIED TO SALVATION IF LUKEWARM AND NOT ACTING IN ACCORDANCE W/ THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST)

WHY WOULD REVELATION FROM GOD TO HIS PEOPLE CEASE W/ THE BIBLE?

Revelation 22:18 which is the scripture many christians cite when arguing there can be no more scripture past the Bible, is referring specifically to the book of revelations. A closer look at history would reveal several of the books in the new testament were actually written after the apostle John received the book of revelations…are those books false? Were those apostles condemned? Over 2000 years have passed since the death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ into Heaven. Don’t we have the same need for continued revelation in a world which is very different from biblical times?

I testify the Lord continues to call prophets and apostles, and they continue to provide guidance for his church in this day and age. Ralph Waldo Emerson of the Harvard Divinity School stated, “God is, not was; that he speaketh, not spake.”

Yes, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are Christian, and the continued revelation received in the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants are equal in importance to the Bible, and along w/ the Bible comprise the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition, his appointed prophets and apostles of this day an age continue to receive revelation pertaining to our time.

But no one can make you believe that. The only way to find out is the ask the Lord w/ an open heart and mind if Joseph Smith was really a prophet and if the Book of Mormon is true. Only then can anyone truly know.

Mormon are not christian. Their god is different from christian god.The mormon god was oncea man and he has a wife he was passing through earth just like us before he became god.The Jesus of the Mormon Church was a spiritual brother of Satan and they were both angles. The Holy Bible says angles shall not be worship. The Jesus christian know was the only son of the living God.

(11) Jake says:

I’m not a member but i married to a mormon member. In the last ten years been visited by missionaries and the pressure they put on my wife, let me to go through the history of the Mormon Church and their basic teaching.
They believe man is a spirit creature finding his orgin in heaven before coming to earth. That Christ is also in the same class as man as well as the spirit brother of Lucifer, therefore we are all spirit brothers. They believe that we incarnate on earth to be offered a way to exaltion where we can become God on our own planet. We then can have many wives who will birth numerous spirit chlildren and repeat the processs as the other Gods did before us
They also believe that there are many Gods as there are stars and that we can become a God by obedience to the mormon Gospel.Salvation is by baptism as the gate, and then the nemurous commands which includes tithing. If one does not repent in this life they have another chance in the after life as they are visited by spirit missionaries who will teach them the Gospel. But first they are baptized by proxy to have them prepare to hear it.
They also believe that Jesus is an angles who is a sprit brother of Lucifer. He got married at Cana and had many wives Martha,Mary and others he also had many children.
(J&D vol 1:345-346,vol 2:79-82,vol 4:259-260 the seer p 172)
“before the savior died,he looked upon his own natural children as we look upon ours.”
(J&D vol 2 p82 “not only was Jesus was married,he also had a family.
(Desert News 20 June 1998) President Hinkley said “The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom i speak. For the Christ whom i speak has been reveal in this dispensation of the fullness of times.”
They can call themself christian as long as they want because it’s a free world remember not like the begining when the apostle and all the Catholic saints start to bring the good news about Jesus Christ to the world.

(12) Simeona says:

GOD of MORMONISM
“The father has a body of flesh and bones as tangle as man”. (D&C 130:22)
JOSEPH SMITH “God himself was once a man as we are now, and is an exalted man….I will tell you how god came to be god….He was once a man like us;yea, that god himself, the father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did…”. (History of the church vol 6 p305-306)
“First God himself, who sits enthorned in yonder heavens, is a man unto one of yourselves, that is a secret”.(J Smith Jr.Time and Season vol 5 p613 Aug 15 1844) This secret became revealed by the morden day self appointed prophet Joseph Smith who in turn whispered it to all his followers. This has continually been passed down,so today there are 10 millions believing it.
Apostle Mc Conkie stated ” God is an exalted man, perfected, enthroned, and supreme”.(Mormon Doctrine p250).
“First we believe that God is a being with a body in form like man, that he possesses body parts and passion, that in words,God is an exalted perfect man”.(Robert:conference of MIA of Saltlake stake of zion.Aug 18 1901)
“As man is,god once was,as god is,man may become….”.(Mormon Prophet Lorenzo Snow.LDS church news Jan 16 1983 p 14)
Mormonism teach that man once an angle incarnated as corruptible man on earth to obey the Mormon gospel and be exalted as a god on another planet like all other god before him.
“Adam was an immortal being when he came to earth. He had lived on an earth similar to ours.He had received the priesthood and the keys thereof, and had been faithful in all things, and had gained his ressurection, and his exaltion and was crowned with glory, immortality and eternal lives, and was numbered with gods, for such he became through his faithfulness”.(Brigham Young quoted in the Journal of L.John Nuttal,Feb 7 1887)
In Mormonism we have a god who was not always god but is an exalted man made from another who was first a man and so on backwards in time.
The God of the Holy Bible is presented as always existing. He is unchangeable the only thing existing that is unchangeable. The Mormon god was not there before time but received his position by becoming a man first and keeping the law and ordinance of their church which came to be recently in the 1800’s.Mormons needs to understand there is no stairway to heaven, exaltion is a myth that will be disintegrated when Jesus Christ comes back.Either your for Jesus or not,one will either bow their knees to him and confess he is Lord to the glory of the Father,or it will done later with all the unbelievers. He shares his position with no one.
Man is made in Gods image which means a moral likeness relating to express his nature. When Jesus quoted this verse in Jh 10:34 after the Jews accuse Jesus of blasphmy because he being a man claimed to be God he answeres ” Is it not written in your law I said You are Gods”.He is not saying they are all god just as he is God.When Jesus repeats I said you are god,he could mean they are god in anyway like Godis.Because in Mormonism they have to progress to become God.(Genis 3:5) “For God knows that in the days you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,knowing good and evil”.If Adam and Eve were already god there would be no need to temp them to be like him.
Satan is a god(ruler)but this does not exclude him from being a fallen angle which is illustrated in Ps 82:6″I said ,You are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High. But you shall die like men,and fall like one of the prince”.
NoticePs 82:6 says they will die as mere men and fall as one of the prince, that prince is Satan.Jesus is saying the scripture cannot be broken refering to hte Psalm. They thought they were like God but they will die as mere men.It is then they will know the differece between the creator the true God and their own mortality of man.Psalm 82 ends with verse 8 “Arise,O God,judge of earth, for you shall inherit all nations”.It points to there being one God who eventuallywill judge and rule over everyone. The god that have not make heaven and earth will perish (Jer 10:11).If Jesus is not the creator is goodbye to him and any other new god that comes along. This certainly means all the gods of Mormonism.
1 Cor 8:5-6 “For even there are so called gods, whether in heaven or on earth,as there are many gods and lords, yet for us there is only one God,the Father of whom all things, and we for Him,and one Lord Jesus Christ through whom are all things, and through whom we live”.
J.Feilding Smith the 10th prophet of the mormon church claimed. “If his claim and declaration were built upon fraud and decit, there would appear many error and contradiction, which would be easy to detect…The world has been unable to place a finger upon anything that is inconsisten,or out of harmony in the revelation to Joseph Smith, with that which has been revealed before,or predicted by the prophets and the Lord Himself”.(Doctrine of Salvation vol 1 p 188-189)
Amazing that one can read the OT and find something different than the people that have read it for thousand yaers.Dr Hugh Nibley has boasted “Yet of all the churches in the world only this one has NOT FOUND it necessary to reajust any part of its doctrine in the last 100 years”. Really, may be this is a case of spirit amnesia or something else! I guess when
your a potential god you can change your mind anytime you want(polygammy, blacks and priesthood).
Isa 42:16 “I willbring the blind by the way they did not know,I will lead them in path they have not know.I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them”.
Isa 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who put darkness before light, and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter”.
They turned the truth into a lie and lie into a truth. In Mormonism we have a god who is not always a god but is originally an exalted man.But who make this exalted man? Another exalted man.If one worship this exalted man it is creature worship, not creator worship. They worhipping an offspring of another creature. So no matter how far one goes back, there is always a man. Rom 1 condems creature worship.A god who was not always god is illogical and a self defeating statement.Since God is eternal in his nature He logically had to exit before anything was created. How can one who was created becomes the everlasting God.What is created is dependent on another who is greater. The Mormon god is not the eternal God but a man who has progressed by being sent to earth as a spirit creature who then becomes a perfected human and is exalted to being a god on his own planet.
We can now change Gensis 1:1 “In the begining,Man!
JESUS OF MORMONISM
“Christ was begotten by an imortal father in the same that mortal men are begotten by mortal father”.(Mormon Doctrine p547)
“The birth of the savior was as natural as the birth of our children;it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood-was begotten of his father,as we of our father”.(Journal of Discourses vol8 p 115)
The man Joseph, the husband of Mary, did not, that we know of,have more than one wife. But Mary the wife of Joseph had another husband. (Brigham Young.Journal of Discourses 11:268)
Jesus got married at Cana and had many wives Martha,Mary and others, he also had many childrens.(Journal of Discourses vol 1 345-346)
“before the savior died,he looked upon his own natural children,as we looked upon ours”.(Journal of Discourses vol 2 p82 & p92)
But according to mormon belief Jesus was an angle who is a spirit brother of Lucifer.
“That Lucifer, the son of the morning star,is our elder brother and the brother of Jesus Christ”. (Bruce R Mc Conkie.Mormon Doctrine)
The Holy Bible says angles do not die(Luk 20:36) nor do they marry(Mt 22:30) and have offspring in heaven.Angles are not to worshipped. Yet the Father says for all the angles to worship the Son(Heb 1:6)who according Mormonism is an angle too. This is forbidden by God.The Jesus of Mormonism who is an angle also married and had offspring not only on earth but in heaven. This is why Jesus can’t be god because he is an offspring of another angle called Michael(not the same one found in the Bible).
The only angle the Holy Bible writes about that wanted to become God is Satan. And they wantus to follow this pernicious doctrine and have the audacity to claim that they are true christian.
Mormons says Joseph Smith prayed for wisdom to which church is correct?Essentially he was not only told that all the churches were abomination, but the scripture was to be discarded and be replaced. The very place God says to seek wisdom from.So where did Joseph get his wisdom from? A spirit came to him,an angle of light.
The Devil certainly can use the same bait he did with Ada and Eve.If one reads the story incorrectly, reinterpreting it to be a good thing,of course they bite.Without the correct knowledge of the Bible decerning what is true, the same line can be use over and over again.Paul warns in 2 Cor 11:14 that Satan has the ability to transform himself into an angle of light.
One needs to choose which massage they will follow. Will they listen to an angle who fell and became Satan the accuser of people of God,who lie to Adam and make him fall, who continue to lie to millions of others today. Will they listen to Jesus who is the truth and die for those who sinned? Those who want to become god certainly don’t need a savior, but those who know the truth will come to light and confess they need someone to save them from their sins. The choice is up to each indiviual no one can make that for you.
Potential Godhood with the devil or eternal life with Jesus. Not much of a choice.
When I’m in a discussion,I have them commit to saying they are christian. Then I pose a question to them in this manner.
What if I said I was a Mormon and that I can join any church that teach the Bible.I also don’t believe Joseph Smith was a true prophet,or that their are morden day prophets and apostles.I don’t believe Jesus is an angle in the sprit family of the devil nor that God gives new revelation adding to scripture nor that I can progress to be a god on my own world by following the ordiances of the Mormon church with its priesthood.
They would answer, then you are not a Mormon.
I would then ask why not?Their reply would be–because you do not believe what mormon believe, our priesthood, our prophets, you don’t believe ininternal progressing,or new revelation in scripture.
My reply would then be, This is exactly why you are not CHRISTIAN.You don’t believe in one God,the finished revelation written by the true prophets, that Jesus is the one true God,and that man is a sinner in need of redemption, and we can NEVER progress to be like God.
If the Mormon church wants to be called christian theres much to change,VERY MUCH..

My friends, people dont know what they are talking about, you said mormons this and mormons that, but i think. where in the bible said what mormons belive is not true?. just because is not there all the way does not mean that is not true. when god created man was on his image right?. when jesus came he said be perfect like my faher in heaven is perfect. so if you became perfect because of christ, what perfection mean?. If we only belive and not do anything else why you go to church, get baptize and do good things if you only need to belive to be safe. please you hate of mormons cames from many years ago and your preachers need money and cant afford to lose the way of leaving. also n the begining the members of the church were persecuted and killed because they belive abit different. just read te bible and you will find the answers of live not just what your preachers tell you what to belive, guest that why we ask people to pray to god and get the confirmation of the truth, and not only belive and what is preach. beside when christ cames forthe second time you will ask ad he will confirm..look for the truth and ask god and you will know the truth. i live my testimony that the church is true and christ is our savior and we have revelation today like before, and in the jugment day christ will know that you read this and you just turn your back and bash him and his church, and i leave this testimony in the name of jesus christ.

(14) Simeona says:

For Mormons that says they believe their church is the true church of Jesus Christ,we can show how the Church of the Apostels resembles in all essentials the Church of today by showing how the early Church already bore the mark or “notes” of the true Church of Jesus Christ which are still professed today in the Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed declares the Church to be:
“ONE,HOLY,CATHOLIC,and APOSTOLIC”.
1. “ONE” The Church of the Apostels is definitely ONE.Paul wrote (Eph 4:4-5)”There is ONE body and ONE spirit, just as there is ONE hope to which God has called you. There is One Lord,ONE faith,ONE baptism;there is ONE God and Father of us all”.Paul linked this primitive unity to the Church’s common Eucharistic bread.(1 Cor 10:17) “Because there is ONE bread,we who are many are ONE body, for we all partake of ONE bread”.Jesus said in John 10:16 “There are other sheeps which belongs to me that are not in this sheepyard.I must bring them too, they will listen to my voice, and they will become ONE flock with ONE shepherd.
2 “HOLY” The sancity of Christ Church is derived from the fact that is Christ Church.(Matthew 16:18) “And so I say on to you Peter, upon this rock I will built my Church”.Since the Church was established by Christ,it is said to be “HOLY”.This does not mean that the member of the Church is free from sin, neither than that the instituion of the Church cannot sin, however Christ loves, supports and guide the Church.(1 Tim 1:15)”Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”.The Church was found for no other reason than to continue Christ redemtive and sanctify work with them in the world. Paul wrote (Eph 5:25-27) “Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the Church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be HOLY and without blemish”.The holiness of the Church of which the creed properly speaks, has always had refernce to her Divine Founder, and to what the Church was founded by him with the power and authority to do,not the condition of her members.
3 “CATHOLIC” (UNIVERSAL) The universality of the Church establishes the Church as being open to all: all races, both sexs, all nationalities.Christ refuses no one from his Grace, therefor the church cannot refuses anyone as long as they accept Christ and the Church.(Mattew 28:18-20) ‘Jesus approached and said to them,”All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.GO therefore, and make disciples of all NATIONS
,BABTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER,AND OF THE SON,AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, teach them to observe all that I have commanded you.And I will be with you ALWAYS,TO THE END OF AGES.The Catholicity of the Church also refers to the fact that the Church is the same everywhere,in everytime,in the past, present and the future. In every land with every people, the Church maintaing the same rituals and belief. Within few years of the foundation of the Church,Paul was writing that “When the true massage, the Good News first come to you,you heard about the hope it offers. So your faith and love are based on what you hope for, which are kept safe in heaven. The Gospel keeps bringing blessing and is spread THROUGH OUT THE WORLD,just as it has amoung you ever since the day you first heard about the Grace of God and come to know it as it really is.
4 “APOSTOLIC” The Church is Apostolic, handed down from Christ through the Apostels to the bishops,to mankind. The Church must have come directly from Christ and can be traced back through history to show that the Church were commisioned to do so by the Apostels, who were in turn commision by Christ.Christ founded the Church upon the Apostles and in no other way (John 6:70) “Did I not choose you,the twelves”.The Apostels of all people understood perfectly well that they did not set themselves up in their own little community, as we sometimes today see ‘gospel churches’ set up in store front or in suburbs. The New Testament teach “One does not take the honor upon himself”.(Heb 5:4)There are already refernces in the New Testament itself to the appointment of bishops by the Apostels,as well as the appointment of further bishops by them.(Eph 2:19-21)”So then, you Gentiles are not foreigners or strangers any longer;you are now citizens together with Gods people and members of the family of God.You,too, are built upon the foundation laid by the Apostels and the Prophets, the conerstone being Christ Jesus himself. He is the one who holds the whole building together and makes it grow into a sacred temple decidated to the Lord”.(Titus 1:5) ” I left you in Crete,so that you could put in order the things that still needed doing and appoint church elders in every town”.
When we ask where,if anywhere is to be found the same Church which the New Testament tells us Christ founded,we have to reformulate the question to ask. What Church, if any, decends in an unbroken line from the Apostels of Jesus Christ(and also, not incidentally, possesses the other notes of which the creed speaks? Further, to introduce a point we have not dwelt on it now,What Church,if any, is headed by a single reconized designated leader, just as the Apostels of Jesus painly functioned,on the evidence of the New Testament, under the headship of Peter? To ask these question is to answer them. Any entity or body claiming to be the true Church of Christ would have to be able to demonstrate it’s apostolicity by demonstrating an orginic link with the original Apostels on whom Christ mainfestly established his Church.Nothing less than this could qualify as the Apostolic Church which Jesus found. As much as for our instruction as for the assurance he intented to give to the Apostels to whom he was actually speaking. Jesus said “He who hears you;hears me;whoever rejects you;rejects me;whoever rejects me;rejects the one who send me”.(Luke 10:16)
Do we take this words seriously today? Do we listen to the teaching of the successor of the Apostel Peter(the pope) as if these teaching were the word of Christ himself. If we do,we are properly members of the Church which Jesus Christ founded on the Apostels and which has come down to us by them.If we do not,how can we pretend that we take anything seriously that Christ said and taught. He said nothing more solemly and categorically than these words,in which he declared that the Apostles and their successors would speaks for him in the serious business of gathering in and santifying his people and leading them to the salvation he offers.Jesus intented that the fullness of his Grace should come to his people in a Church that, from the begining, was what the creed still calls it today: “ONE,HOLY,CATHOLIC,and APOSTOLIC”.

(15) Chris says:

The first thing I have to do when considering Latter-day Saints is to remember it’s the theology we are discussing and not family values. The Mormans, like many religions, teach strong family values, but family values cannot get you saved. There are many Latter-day Saint beliefs, teachings and prophesies that go against and beyond the teachings of the Bible.
1. The true God
2. Birth of Jesus
3. Father of Jesus
4. Future of mankind
5. Christ’s blood atonement and ours
6. Eternal marriage between a man and woman
7. The mark of Cain (black skin)
8. The Bible is not a sufficient guide
9. All other churches are wrong
10. Life on the moon
11. The priesthood
12. Importance of genealogy
13. Faith(righteousness)vs works (justification)
…..and I’m sure there’s more.

I’m only mentioning one, the true God, as it goes to the foundation of their belief.

These are from Latter-day Saints publications:

“Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint and sinner! When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives with him. He helped to make and organize this world. He is Michael, the archangel, the Ancient of Days! about whom holy men have written and spoken – He is our Father and our God, and the only god with whom we have to do.” Journal of Discourses, Vol 1, page 50-51 – Brigham Young

“How much unbelief exists in the minds of the Latter-day Saints in regard to one particular doctrine which I revealed to them, and which God revealed to me – namely that Adam is our Father and God.” Desert Weekly News, June 18, 1873, page 308 – Brigham Young

“Concerning the item of doctrine alluded to by Elder Caffal and others viz., that Adam is our Father and God, I have to say do not trouble yourselves, neither let the Saints be troubled about that matter…If, as Elder Caffal remarked, there are those who are waiting at the door of the Church for this objection to be removed, tell such, the Prophet and Apostle Brigham has declared it, and that is the Word of the Lord.” Millennial Star, Vol. 15, page 534 – Brigham Young

Brigham Young “had never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men that they may not call scripture”. Journal of Discourses, Vol 13, page 95 – Brigham Young

This is from the Bible:

Genesis 5:2
“Male and female He created them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”

So, God created Adam. Adam is not the God of Christianity nor the Father of Jesus as is taught by Brigham Young.
So, for Latter-day Saints, Adam is their God and father of Jesus or Brigham Young was a false prophet. It has to be one or the other.

Galatians 1:6-9 (Translated from the Greek manuscript)
“I marvel that you are so soon turned from him that invited and called you unto the grace of Christ, to another gospel. Not that there could be another, but there are some who are troubling you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But, even if we or an angel from Heaven preach to you a contrary or different gospel, let them be accursed. As we said before, I now say again, if any man preaches to you any gospel that goes beyond that which you have received, let them be accursed.”

I don’t wish to condemn anyone or put any religion down, but when Joesph Smith wrote that God told him that all other churches are wrong, it just cries for a response.

(16) Rich says:

Mormons believe in Christ as he was described in the Bible. They do not agree with the Niceen Creed, which was the result of political maneuvering and debate and was voted on by people who were forced by a dictator to meet together until they could agree on a statement. Some sects of Christianity accept parts of the Creed, incorporating it into statements of faith, or basic doctrines that they accept. Mormons are castigated for not believing in “historical Christianity,” meaning they reject the Niceen Creed as the philosophies of man even though they continue to accept the Christ of the Bible. If you define a Christian as someone who believes in the Bible but does not believe in LDS doctrine, then Mormons are not Christian. If you define Christians as those who believe what the Bible says about Christ and reject any the Niceen Creed, then most Baptists, Methodists and Catholics are not Christian, while Mormons are Christian. It’s a question of semantics. But if you define a Christian as somebody who accepts Jesus Christ as the Only Begotten Son of God, then almost all Protestants, Catholics and Mormons are Christians.

“But if you define a Christian as somebody who accepts Jesus Christ as the Only Begotten Son of God, then almost all Protestants, Catholics and Mormons are Christians.”

And if the Protestants, Catholics and Mormoms left it at that, there would be one Christian faith.

But each goes further in their beliefs of who and what the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost are and rites of worship. This is where the true test lies when applying your works to your faith.

There are false Christs and false teaching. No institution can put a yoke on the children who have been set free.

Do they even try to keep with what is outlined in the letter to the Hebrews?

Are Mormon’ Christians? Sure… if by Christian you mean “someone who believes in a person that existed at one point whose name was Jesus Christ”. And unfortunately, that’s petty much what the term means these days. But guess what… that means even Satan, demons, etc are ‘Christians’. The question you should really be asking is “are Mormoms followers of Jesus Christ?”. Do some investigating and you will find that they are not. You can’t count how many ‘Christian’ cults there are out there that call themselves Christian yet don’t follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Mormons are NOT Christians.

The God I worship is spirit and is ONE GOD. The god Mormons worship was a sinning man from another planet who became exalted and became a god of this world.

The Jesus Christ that I worship is the Word of God made flesh. He was conceived through an emaculate conception between the “virgin Mary” and the Holy Spirit. He is the only Son of God and he IS NOT Jesus’ spirit brother. The Jesus that is worshipped by Mormons was conceived through sexual relations through their god and his goddess wife. He was a brother of Satan.

Mormons absolutely ARE NOT Christians.

(21) Angie says:

Mormons are definitely Christian! The basis of the LDS church is around the Savior and his atonement! That is why the church is called the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.” Not only do Mormons study the bible and Christ’s teachings, but they also teach that only through Christ can one be saved. Our Savior is the same Christ from the Bible. Just to clear things up, Mormons believe that God is our eternal father and Jesus Christ is our eternal brother. We are ALL spiritual brothers and sisters.

I have met a few “Chrisitans” in my life and if I say that LDS are those kinds of Chrisitans, I would be a liar. I am mormon and there is no way I would say that I am Christian if those who call themselves Christians are bashing other people because of their faith. I have never seen a single scripture in the Bible where Christ told his followers to mock those that had different beliefs are not associate with them. If that’s what it means to be Christian then I am not. I beleive in Christ and I am his follower. The rest of you can have fun dirtying the label “Christian”

Wow! after reading all the misspelled words and atrocious grammar contained in the comments left by the so-called “Christians”, not to mention the vitriol contained in them.

It sickens me that these people call themselves “Christians”.

Of all the LDS people I’ve met I have never heard one say something negative about the Baptists.

While attending a Baptist congregation at the invitation of a friend, the Pastor denigrated the “Mormons” during the sermon!

It made me think, “what has the Baptists so afraid that they have to attack another religion from the pulpit?”.

If the LDS church is a lie then why not just ignore it?

Hmm… Methinks the Baptists are the lie.

Just a thought.
