Poll: Saved by Faith or Works?

Monday February 18, 2008
After browsing through my list of LDS FAQ's and seeing this one, Do Latter-day Saints Believe We are Saved by Faith or Works? I wondered what other people believe. Thus a new poll was born:

Next Poll: Are Mormons Christians?
Previous Poll: At what age did you receive your Patriarchal Blessing?

How about saved by the Atonement?

Eric, the poll option, “faith” means faith in Jesus Christ, and thus the atonement as explained in the FAQ.

The purpose of this poll seems to be to find the belief of Latter-Day Saints in how one is “Saved.” The allowed options will give the casual reader an incorrect perception of LDS beliefs, because the true belief is not even an option. In order to get a clearer picture, the options should be Grace, Works, or Both. ‘Faith’ implies our belief in Him. ‘Grace’ implies His mercy upon us. I know it sounds picky, but you will get much more accurate results with these options.

Thanks!

Mike, thanks for pointing that out. You’re right, it probably would have been much clearer (especially to those of other faiths) if I’d used the word grace instead of faith.

Since the options didn’t specify WHOSE works, and I think we can all agree that His Works are saving works, I replied both. Perhaps even His Faith should be considered a part of Salvation, too?

There was an Insign article years ago that clarified that for me. Wish I could find my copy. There is a universal salvation through Christ’s atonement for all who accept it.
Then there is another salvation for those who accept and obey.

Only Mormons has to work to be save, because they have to abide and obey the law of their church to progress to be God on their own planet like all other God before him……NO WORK,,,,NO GOD…..

I am always amazed by the answers from this question. The scriptures teach that all are saved neither by faith nor works–but by grace. This is what the LDS church teaches. The only question left to ask–who receives this grace? Those who have faith in Christ, repenting, and being baptized, following Christ. And what is this grace?”..Repent, and be baptized…for the remission of sins…” Acts2:38 This grace is the only key that unlocks the doors of eternal life. If faith or works could have unlocked it–Abraham and Moses would not have had to wait for the Atonement.
