Poll: Do You Like Valentine's Day?

Saturday January 26, 2008
What with Valentine's Day coming up I thought I'd post this poll. It seems to me that Valentine's Day is a holiday that people either like or dislike and that usually depends on their love life.

If none of the choices apply to you, you can share your response in the comments.

I voted no, even though I have a sweetheart…it’s not that I DISlike the holiday, I just don’t care a whole lot about it. In my marriage, it’s just another day, and it kinda seems like a silly excuse to spend money more than anything:-)

Even though I’ve been married over 30 years I still think it’s fun. Since my husband works for a floral business he hates it because he works very long hours for several days. We celebrate together after the fact.

I make heart cookies & candy hearts for friends, especially widows & people who get forgotten. It makes them feel pretty special & i love doing it.!!
For hubby & I it’s not a big deal but he leaves me little notes & gifts all year long anyway. Still groovin after 38 years :)

I don’t hate it, I do dislike the relentless pressure to buy perfume, jewelry etc. The Christmas holiday nearly wipes out most families and just as we are trying to get our taxes done wham we are hit with another false motivator to go into further debt to make our spouses feel like they kept up with the friends, coworkers, or neighbors and got them something bigger, shinier, or more expensive to prove our love. I love my wife and I love to make romantic gestures but during this holiday nothing is ever enough, you always have to out do last year and it’s going to cost a lot or you can see the disappointment. Like “oh that’s nice” but not really meant because it was less than last time. Women read far too much into it and As someone who manages over 20 women it’s evident in most that they compare, complain, get jealous, and get caught up in it. Where is the genuine passion and appreciate that does not require expensive gifts? When was the last time you saw a woman on the job bragging because her husband simply said he loved her and spent time with her and listened to her? It’s just a bogus holiday meant to get us to spend more money via guilt mechanisms.
