Good Ideas

Janet Cook shared some good ideas for helping our Young Women with their transition into Relief Society. She said:
"One thing is to make them visiting teachers right away. Pair them up with a reliable, self-starter who will help them see the benefit of visiting regularly and getting to know their sisters. I don't know why the girls in YW aren't junior companions like the boys are. That would give them a good start. If the mother is active, they could go with their mom for a while or with some other lady they know well–maybe one of their former YW leaders. Also, talk to the bishop/branch pres. about a calling in RS or SS on Sunday rather than Primary , so they can get to know some sisters in RS before they get shuttled off to some other responsibility." (See the comments for, "Young Women Transition into Relief Society.")Do you have a good idea to share with us? If so please leave it in the comments. Thanks Janet for sharing your ideas!

As the 1st counselor of the Gaffney Ward South Carolina relief society I am responsible for teaching. One of our young women aspires to be a teacher after college, I have arranged for her to be our assistant relief society teacher. When one of our regular teachers are absent for a Sunday, our new YW teaches. This way I always have a sub. Another Young Woman directed music for me when I was Young Women president. I how have her directing music when our regular director is absent from any of our activities, ie, enrichment, sunday meetings, etc. She is also responsible for our “practice songs”. Another YW is helping with decorations and food committee for enrichment meetings. We have “Found” the perfect position for each girl. They all have a reason to attend relief society by fulfilling their “calling”. They enjoy being a part of relief society when they know they are needed and welcomed. I enjoy having “my” Young Women working and being with me again.
Thank you Jackie for sharing your comment about helping your Young Women fit into Relief Society… it’s a great idea.
