Fortifying Ourselves with the Armor of God

From Rachel Bruner, About.com GuideMay 26, 2007

Follow me on:

Within a short period of time I have read three resources that all talk about the war with Satan and fortifying ourselves by putting on the Armor of God. First I read "Putting on the Armor of God," by Steven A. Cramer in my ward's book group, then the lesson in Relief Society from the manual, Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Spencer W. Kimball, was "Fortifying Ourselves against Evil Influences," and a day or two later I read the First Presidency Message by President Hinckley in the May, 2007 Ensign, "An Unending Conflict, a Victory Assured." All three of these resources have made me ponder the importance of following Paul's teaching in Ephesians 6:11,13-17:
"Put on the whole Armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
"Wherefore take unto you the whole Armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
"And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
We really are in a war- a war between good and evil. To truly protect ourselves in this spiritual war we must fortify ourselves by putting on the Armor of God. Find additional resources in this Armor of God lesson.
