Challenge to Read the Book of Mormon by 2006

Tuesday August 2, 2005
A letter from the First Presidency was recently sent to all wards and branches inviting members and friends to read the Book of Mormon by 2006. This challenge is from President Gordon B. Hinckley's First Presidency Message in this month's Ensign. He says,
"We studied the Book of Mormon in Sunday School this past year. Nonetheless I offer a challenge to members of the Church throughout the world and to our friends everywhere to read or reread the Book of Mormon. If you will read a bit more than one and one-half chapters a day, you will be able to finish the book before the end of this year." ("A Testimony Vibrant and True," Aug 2005, 5.)
In the letter the First Presidency has also asked everyone to share this invitation with those who do not receive the Ensign or Liahona and encourage each member to have their own copy of the Book of Mormon.

I think this is a wonderful challenge and have already started reading the Book of Mormon again. Here are some great resources that can help you achieve this challenge from the First Presidency of the Church:
  • Pocket Sized Book of Mormon (Scroll down to "Scriptures")
This small Book of Mormon from LDS Distribution Center is only $4.00 and easily fits into a pocket or purse! I carry mine around with me everywhere, which makes it easy for me to read a chapter or two when standing in line waiting for something or when I have a quiet moment or two.
  • Book of Mormon Reading Chart
A bookmark with places to mark off which chapters you've read!
  • Book of Mormon Goal Calculator
Figure out how many chapters or pages you will need to read each day to finish reading by the end of this year.
  • Book of Mormon Bookmarks
These fun bookmarks have a cool Book of Mormon clipart picture and come with a quote by Joseph Smith. They're available in two different colors!
  • Book of Mormon Easy Quiz
Test your knowledge of the Book of Mormon with this fun quiz.
  • Book of Mormon Hard Quiz
REALLY test your knowledge of the Book of Mormon with this tough quiz!
  • Book of Mormon Candy Bar Wrappers
Invite others to read the Book of Mormon by giving them a chocolate bar with a wrapper about the Book of Mormon!
There are even more resources in this Book of Mormon category including how to receive a free copy if you're not a member of the LDS Church, or where to read the Book of Mormon online.
