Rich Alton noted, "The angel Moroni was an important symbol throughout the night. As the fire progressed, the flames slowly inched their way up the tower that supported Moroni. The members' greatest hope, when it became clear there would be nothing left of the temple, was that the angel Moroni would stand tall at the end of the night."
